The Bishop's Candlesticks
by Ed Olsworth-Peter
|
7.30pm Tuesday 11th - Saturday 15th March 2008
|
The Rt. Rev Geoffrey Milner is a bishop who doesn’t play by the rules. Peter Barry is an ex offender
who is out on parole having served time in prison for manslaughter and is finding life on the outside
difficult. After a chance meeting with Peter, the bishop invites him to dinner. The events that then
follow lead them on a journey that will both challenge and change the course of events in a dramatic way,
but convictions cost.
Based on a pivotal scene in Victor Hugo’s ‘Les Miserable’, this updated adaptation challenges our
perceptions about the issues of mercy and forgiveness. Christian issues that aren’t just for Christians.
This production is an evening of ‘theatre as conversation’. Seated at tables of 6 whilst enjoying cheese
and wine, the audience is invited to watch the show then afterwards over coffee to discuss what they
have seen.
